WOLVES, BEAVERS, BLACK BEAR, AMERICAN INDIAN CULTURE
After a hearty breakfast, discover the world of wolves An arctic wolf pack and a pack of grey wolves living in semi-liberty in very large enclosed park. With your guide, learn about the lifestyle of the packs and the interactions between its members in their hierarchical society. Afterwards, we visit our interpretive centre (photographs and texts about these animals).
By late morning we reach, on foot, the reconstruction of a American Indian camp. We enjoy a traditional meal in a tepee and experience the culture of The First Nations; the first occupants and users of the land where our base is situated. Afterwards, we have a guided hike back to our base, discovering the different ecosystems of the boreal forest.
Near to our chalets, there is small lake, created by beavers, where you may see these indefatigable builders in action.
In the late afternoon we go in a minivan to an enclosed shelter in the forest, in the heart of the territory of the black bear. With our guide, we will have the opportunity to learn a little more about this very secretive animal. We can stay there, until the dark, waiting for the arrival of the bear. Then return to base for dining and staying overnight.
CANOE ON THE OUASIEMSCA AND MISTASSINI RIVERS.
We canoe down the river Ouasiemsca, another way to discover the boreal forest. During the descent we can approach the beaver huts and see their occupants. We have lunch, grilled over a wood fire beside the river. The Ouasiemsca River flows into the Mistassini River. We paddle up it, to the foot of the 11th fall, a magnificent waterfall that blocks the river. You will learn how to use your paddle (safely) in whitewater, as well as have the opportunity to hike near the falls, swim, or take a nap on the sandy beach! Followed by a short transfer back to the base in the late afternoon. for dining and staying overnight.
